KANSAS CITY, Kan.– Defending USMTS national champion Rodney Sanders rolled into Lakeside Speedway’s Clash of the Titans Tuesday as the points leader in the Major League Bowhunter Central Region presented by Day Motor Sports, and rolled out with another win and $3,000 in his back pocket.

The 24-year-old from Happy, Texas set the tone under the Kansas City sun by earning the Sybesma Graphics Pole Award during heat race action.

Little changed after the sun went down as ‘The Rocket’ led all 35 laps of the main event from the pole and recorded his fifth win in the region. His first came at the same half-mile oval on April 11.

A couple of late-race cautions erased a comfortable lead for Sanders and allowed defending track champion Nic Bidinger, and then Terry Phillips, to show the leader the nose of their cars. Phillips, in fact, slid in front of Sanders and led the 25th lap, but Sanders returned the favor and withstood the challenge.

He pulled away from the field over the final handful of laps and sailed away to his 12th triumph of the 2014 season and 30th of his USMTS career. It was also his third straight win.

Phillips, who started 11th, held on for the runner-up paycheck while Bidinger remained third at the finish with Zack VanderBeek and Trevor Hunt coming home fourth and fifth.

The finish:

Rodney Sanders; Terry Phillips; Nic Bidinger; Zack VanderBeek; Trevor Hunt; Stormy Scott; Kelly Shryock; Jordan Grabouski; Dereck Ramirez; Dylan Smith; Rick Beebe;  Tim Setzer; Thomas Tillison Jr.;  Lance Town;  Joe Duvall; Mark Hoover; Daniel Hilsabeck; Bryan Rowland; Austin Siebert;  88d Matt Dotson; Mark Schafman; Johnny Scott; Tim Karrick; Luke Driskell;  Darron Fuqua
