Labonte, Longhorn Chassis Add Rumley
TRINITY, N.C. – Bobby Labonte Racing (BLR) and Longhorn Chassis announced today the addition of Kevin Rumley to their staff.
Rumley, owner of K&L Rumley Enterprises, will serve as the lead engineer in design and setup for the No. 44 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series entry of driver Earl Pearson Jr. and also all new Longhorn Chassis moving forward.
Rumley and his father, Lee Roy, will continue to own and enter the No. 6 dirt late model team with driver Steve Shaver. This team will move into the BLR and Longhorn Chassis building in Trinity, N.C., and Shaver will compete regionally with a Longhorn Chassis in 2013.
Five-time national dirt late model champion Earl Pearson Jr. returns to the helm of the No. 44 Lucas Oil machine for BLR in 2013. Pearson Jr. will work closely with Rumley on the Longhorn Chassis as he will remain the house car and compete on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Anthony Burroughs, who joined the BLR team earlier this season, will continue his role as crew chief.
The addition of Rumley is aimed to bring an engineering emphasis to the Longhorn Chassis and thus the race performances of all its customers. Rumley, who also works as an engineer at CV Products in North Carolina, has proven knowledge and experience as a race engineer. He will now be allowed to bring that experience to BLR, the Longhorn Chassis and its current owners.
“This is something really new for me, but at the same time it isn’t,” said Rumley. “I have used my experiences as an engineer with my race cars, with success, for many years. And now, to bring my knowledge and skills to the Longhorn Chassis and Bobby Labonte Racing is an opportunity to combine all our ideas to create a superior product. It’s something we are all pretty excited about and we’re already working on 2013.”
Pearson, his race team and Longhorn staff are also ready to work closely with Rumley and Shaver.
“Bringing someone in who has a concentration in race engineering is really something new to dirt late model racing,” said Pearson Jr. “This is something that we have thought about to help us improve our performance and also make the best chassis and cars possible.
“Kevin has proven he can prepare a car to win on the national level,” continued Pearson Jr. “His expertise will immediately bring the Longhorn Chassis to the next level and hopefully translate into wins for our teams and all our customers. Kevin, Steve and I have already bounced off a lot of ideas and are preparing for next season now. I expect nothing but great things from this addition.”
Team owner and co-owner of Longhorn Chassis Bobby Labonte is very familiar with how important engineering has become in professional racing. He was very supportive in helping Rumley come aboard.
“Engineering support has become a larger part of racing, especially at the highest levels,” said Labonte. “We want our Longhorn Chassis to be the best possible choice for all our customers and also be able to help them win with it. I feel that the addition of Kevin will elevate the Longhorn Chassis to where we want it to be. Kevin and Steve Shaver will be a great addition to work with our current staff and hopefully we can win a lot of races together.”
Rumley begins his new role immediately with Longhorn Chassis and BLR.
