Daspit Claims NeSmith Weekly Crown

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – Noah Daspit has clinched the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Championship after driving the Billy Riels Racing GRT to his 14th win of the season on Saturday night at St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, La.

Daspit did have to overcome some adversity to seal the deal for the $10,000 title.

Daspit had some problems with his primary car, the Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star in the pre-race warm-up laps, so he climbed into the car of his teammate Shannon Lee, set fast time and won the race. Lee drove the car to his fourth win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg (Miss.) Motorsports Park.

While Daspit has 14 wins this season, only 13 of them count in his best 14 week total of 699 points because he posted two wins in the same week, and only one can count in the 14 week total. With four weeks left in the season, the 43-year-old driver needs one more 50-point win to become the first driver in the eight-year history of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series to record a perfect point total of 700.

After 23 weeks of the 27-week NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series season, Daspit has 14 wins, 25 top five finishes and 27 top ten finishes in 30 races. Daspit is the series leader in wins, top five finishes and top ten finishes.

While Daspit has clinched the championship, there are still several battles for the remaining NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Top 10 points fund-paying positions.

Montana Dudley did not compete in NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Week 23 competition, but remains second in the standings with a best 14 week total of 686 points. Dudley has nine wins, 15 top five finishes and 17 top ten finishes in 17 races driving the Zaxby’s Rocket.

Lee’s victory on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park netted him two points to bring his best 14 week total to 685 points and the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings. Lee has four wins, 23 top five finished and 26 top ten finishes in 30 races.

Mike Palasini did not net any points in NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Week 23 competition, but he remains in the fourth spot with a best 14 week total of 682 points. Palasini has seven wins and 13 top five finishes in 20 races driving the MP Trucking Trak-Star.

Jeff Glisson drove the SGR Equipment Rocket to a third-place finish to net six points on Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, Tenn., to move up to the fifth position in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 673 points. Glisson has three wins, 12 top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 18 races.
