Harris Hustles To Deery LM Triumph
FARLEY, Iowa — The fourth time was a charm Tuesday night for Brian Harris.
After finishing third in each of the first three Deery Brothers Summer Series events of the season, Harris led the last half of a 50-lap feature for IMCA Late Models at Farley Speedway that ran green to checkered.
The win, the career sixth for Harris, paid $3,000 to the tour point leader. Justin Kay and Nick Marolf swapped the lead throughout the first half of the race and ran side-by-side for much of the late going before Kay got the edge for second.
Hard charger Jeff Aikey moved up 11 positions from his spot on the original grid for fourth. Joel Callahan completed the top five.
Curt Martin drew the pole and led the opening circuit before giving way to the third-starting Marolf. Kay began his initial stint at the point on lap nine, was briefly out of first on lap 14, then kept a tenu¬ous lead until lap 24.
Harris entered the fray at that point, taking over up front on the 25th circuit. He’d run three wide with Kay and Marolf and use multiple lines to negotiate lapped traffic before pulling out to a five-car-length margin of victory.
Ray Guss Jr. brought a streak of two straight wins to Farley and finished ninth.
