NDRL Travelers Set To Invade Atomic
PHOENIX – The stars of the National Dirt Racing League are preparing to make their one and only 2014 visit to the Buckeye State for this week’s Atomic Blast at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio.
The Atomic Blast, slated for Thursday through Saturday, will feature three full evenings of racing action at the southern Ohio three-eighths-mile oval.
“This is a huge event for us. This will be the biggest event we have held since we took control of the track. We have had a great response from both drivers and fans,” said Atomic Speedway promoter Brad McCown. “We are expecting a large turnout of both. And we believe that the NDRL has already made its mark as the series to see in 2014. So we want to invite everyone down to see the things we have done here and take in a great weekend of racing action.”
The NDRL gang will kick start the weekend on Thursday, May 8 with practice and an autograph session in the main grandstands area. In addition to those activities Atomic will have racing action in their AMRA Modifieds, Sport Mods and Street Stock divisions on Thursday evening. The NDRL will open up racing action on Friday night, May 9 when they will vie for $5,000 to win in a 40-lap feature event. Saturday the NDRL drivers will go after the Atomic Blast finale which features a $15,000 to win/75-lap A-Main. The Atomic Speedway AMRA Modifieds and Street Stock divisions will also be in action on both Friday and Saturday night.
“We are very much looking forward to our events at Atomic. Brad McCown and his staff have worked extremely hard on getting the word out and promoting this event,” said NDRL Series Director Kelley Carlton. “We know that they are just as excited and enthused as we are about the Atomic Blast weekend. We are expecting a great field or race cars, many of which are not seen in the area very often. We are also expecting tremendous fan turnout as well. We have had some of the most exciting races of the season so far and we expect more of the same at a great track like Atomic.”
Jonathan Davenport will lead the NDRL travelers into this weekend’s action. Davenport holds a slim 14 point lead over Scott Bloomquist in the NDRL Championship standings. Don O’Neal, Chris Madden and Kent Robinson rounds out the top five. Other NDRL regulars Billy Moyer Jr., Steve Francis, Billy Moyer, John Blankenship, Chris Ferguson, Tim Fuller, Bub McCool, Max Blair, Mason Zeigler and William Thomas are all slated to be in competition at Atomic along with some of the best regional and local drivers in the country.
