Utter Survives Tipton Corn Belt Clash
TIPTON, Iowa – The Corn Belt Clash roared back into action on Friday night at Cedar County Raceway, with Jason Utter outdueling Chad Simpson for the $3,000 top prize.
It was a day where rain could have won the show but the staff at the Tipton Iowa Bullring had other plans. Heavy equipment was bought in to work the black dirt into a tacky fast racing surface. The track developed a unique top and middle cushion for two fast lanes on the quarter mile oval.
The 30 lap feature was not decided until the white flag lap with Chad Simpson riding high and Jason Utter slinging low. Simpson appeared to have the slightest edge but slipped over the cushion giving Utter his biggest opportunity of the night to take home the top prize.
It was an Iowa race and Iowa drivers rounded out the top five. Spencer Diercks had one of his best runs of the year to grab third place with local Tipton Iowa standout Jake Meier taking Forth. Veteran Denny Eckrich and the “Flying 50” took home fifth place.
