Chili Bowl Nationals Adds Tuesday Session To Schedule

TULSA, Okla. — If the annual Chili Bowl Nationals can pack edge-of-your-seat racing into four nights, fans will go crazy as 2009 adjusts for an additional night of qualifying. Adding Tuesday into the weekend festivities, rookies and newcomers will now be divided among the four qualifying nights, intertwined with the sport’s top stars. 
Scheduled for Jan. 13-17, only the top- three finishers from each qualifying event will be locked into the 50-lap finale on Saturday, adjusting for harder racing and more scrambling then ever before.
Current ticket holders only have through May 21 to renew or adjust their ticket orders for next January, where then all seats will become available on a first-come, first-serve basis. To order tickets, call the Chili Bowl ticket office at (918) 838-3777 or visit www.chilibowl.com.

World Of Outlaws Adds Three Sprint Car Events

CONCORD, N.C. — Three more events have been added to the 2008 Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series tour.
The series will head to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., in a Midwest tune-up for the Month of Money July 3. Then, the winged warriors will return to Wilmot (Wis.) Speedway Aug. 1 as part of a Wisconsin doubleheader with previously scheduled Charter Raceway Park Aug. 2. The third addition is a Sept. 2 event at Cottage Grove Speedway in Oregon.
Events previously scheduled for Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., and Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix have been removed from this season’s tour.

ASA Late Models Offer $100,000 Bonus

LEXINGTON, Mich. — The ASA Late Model Series has signed a deal with O’Reilly Auto Parts to sponsor a newly created $100,000 Triple Crown award.
The award will go to the driver who wins the three Triple Crown races set this year at what will be the season-opening event at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Clermont, Ind., Salem (Ind.) Speedway and Memphis Motorsports Park.
“We’ll have a $100,000 bonus if anybody can win all three races,” said ASA Late Model Series President Ron Varney. “Any time you can throw that $100,000 mark up there, that’s pretty big in this asphalt side of it.”

ALMS Sets New Attendance Record

BRASELTON, Ga. — The first round of the American Le Mans Series season set a new attendance record for the 12 Hours of Sebring at Sebring Int’l Raceway. Officials announced attendance of more than 170,500 over the four-day event.
In addition, ratings for Speed’s 11 hours of coverage increased 17 percent to 173,000 households.

Macon Speedway Starts ‘Best Fan’ Promotion

MACON, Ill. — Macon Speedway has developed Best Fan in the Stands, a new promotion aiming to reward both the weekly modified drivers and the fans every Saturday night.
Kicking off April 5, the promotion will allow a volunteer to draw a finishing number for the modified feature to determine the weeks Best Fan in the Stands winner, awarding $100 to the modified driver finishing in the drawn number, as well as a fan chosen by the winning driver.
In addition to the UMP modifieds, the track will host weekly UMP late-model, street-stock and hornet divisions. The track will also host three Nights of NASCAR Stars where NASCAR drivers will sign autographs and compete with local drivers. For more information, visit www.maconracing.com.

Bloomington Speedway Announces Schedule

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Bloomington Speedway has released its 2008 schedule, featuring the regular weekly events as well as those new to the quarter-mile clay oval.
Returning to the track for weekly racing are the sprint-car, UMP open-wheel modified and UMP Indiana super-stock divisions kicking off the season April 11. In addition, the track will host the Sheldon Kinser Memorial for the 20th-consecutive year June 13.
Four bonus nights have been added to the schedule, offering additional money in each purse on those nights. The track will also participate in USAC Indiana Midget and Sprint weeks and host the King of Indian Sprint Series as well as host the first Spring Clash April 25, paying $3,000 to win and $300 to start.

Lasky Takes Over Tracks For Miley Motor Sports

PITTSBURGH — Miley Motor Sports has teamed up with veteran race promoter Stan Lasky to operate Motordrome Speedway and Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in 2008.
Miley Motor Sports will operate Pennsylvania Motor Speedway for the 20th-consecutive season while handing operation of Motordrome Speedway over to the Lasky family and marketing the speedways together when appropriate, feeling the arrangement will allow both teams to take their respective venues to the next level.
“We feel that Stan Lasky and his family will bring back that hands-on management at Motordrome, and that will allow us to focus on Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway and the newly-formed UFo Race Championship,” said President of Miley Motor Sports Ben Miley. “It is a win-win situation for everyone involved.”

Bunn Is USAC’s New Fire, Safety Official

INDIANAPOLIS — Eric Bunn, formally serving as USAC’s Ford Focus coordinator since 2002, has been promoted to USAC’s fire, safety and health official.
In his new position, Bunn will handle all matters related to fire and safety management and insurance as well as coordinate with race facilities regarding safety requirements and personnel. Bunn will continue to oversee USAC’s Wednesday Night Thunder Series events, as well.
“My career in motorsports gives me an opportunity to impact the field of safety, an area I’ve always considered high priority,” said Bunn. “Safety at USAC has always been job number one, and we take pride in our leadership role in the industry.”
