1. Tony Schumacher

U.S. Army Dragster, NHRA Top Fuel
Schumacher flexed his muscles in round one of NHRA’s Countdown, winning the U.S. Nationals for the sixth time on Labor Day Monday.
Schumacher and the remainder of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series competitors get back on the track this weekend at Memphis Motorsports Park.

2. Dario Franchitti
No. 27 Canadian Club Honda, IndyCar Series
Franchitti passed Scott Dixon entering the final turn and won Sunday’s race at Chicagoland Speedway — and the IndyCar title.

3. Jimmie Johnson
No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, Nextel Cup Series
With his second-consecutive victory, the defending series champion opens The Chase as the point leader.

4. Lewis Hamilton
No. 2 McLaren Mercedes, Formula One
Hamilton finished second Sunday, but retained his lead in the World Driving Championship standings.

5. Joey Saldana
No. 9 JEI Sprint Car, World of Outlaws
Saldana was perfect on the weekend, winning a preliminary feature and Saturday’s Gold Cup Race of Champions.

6. Jon Fogarty/Alex Gurney
No. 99 Gainsco Pontiac, Grand Am Series
Fogarty and Gurney take the last step toward the Grand Am championship this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.

7. Tony Stewart
No. 20 Home Depot Chevrolet, Nextel Cup Series
Stewart continued his string of consistent performances with a second-place finish at Richmond Int’l Raceway.

8. Sebastien Bourdais
No. 1 McDonald’s Panoz, Champ Car World Series
Bourdais had the weekend off and will not race again until Champ Car visits Australia in October.

9. Donny Schatz
No. 15 J&J Sprint Car, World of Outlaws
Schatz, who was one of the hottest drivers in the country in early August, struggled for the second-straight weekend.

10. Scott Dixon
No. 9, Target Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, IndyCar Series
Dixon ran out of fuel on the final lap and not only lost Sunday’s race, but the IRL title in the process.

Honorable Mention

Two-time defending Formula One World Champion Fernando Alonso is closing on the top of the rankings and the lead in the F-1 standings after a victory at Monza.

Last Week

Despite having the weekend off, Tony Schumacher, who won the Top Fuel portion of NHRA’s U.S. Nationals remained at the top of the NSSN Power Rankings.
