Tony Schumacher (NHRA Photo)

No. 1 Tony Schumacher

U.S. Army Dragster, NHRA Top Fuel
Schumacher rides a five-race win streak into this weekend’s 55th running of the U.S. Nationals at O’Reilly Raceway Park. He has won 10 times this season as the Countdown approaches and is the odds-on favorite to continue that streak at the Big Go.

2. Kyle Busch

No. 18 Toyota, NASCAR Sprint Cup
Busch has been frustrated by consecutive runner-up Cup finishes to Carl Edwards. He still earned NCTS and late-model victories this week.

3. Carl Edwards

Nos. 99/60 Fords, NASCAR Sprint Cup/Nationwide Series
Edwards has won two-straight Cup races, beating a trailing Busch both times. It appears Busch will have a challenger in The Chase.

4. Donny Schatz

No. 15 J&J Sprint Car, World of Outlaws
Schatz ended a tough week, which included a flip early on, with a second-place run for his 45th-straight top-10 finish.

5. Scott Dixon

No. 9 Target Chip Ganassi Dallara-Honda, IndyCar Series
Dixon surprisingly struggled at Sonoma, finishing in 12th place and watching his series point lead cut by nearly half.

6. Jason Meyers

No. 14 KPC Sprint Car, World of Outlaws
Meyers earned his eighth victory of the season by outrunning Donny Schatz. Meyers now has 18-straight top-five finishes.

7. Johnny Benson

No. 23 Toyota, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
Benson’s three-race winning streak ended at Bristol, where he still led 29 laps and ended up with a solid fourth-place run.

8. Lewis Hamilton

No. 22 Vodaphone McLaren Mercedes, Formula One
Hamilton battled the flu during the European Grand Prix, but had enough to finish second to Felipe Massa’s Ferrari.

9. Jason Johnson

No. 41 Eagle Sprint Car, American Sprint Car Series
Johnson took home a $50,000 bonus for winning the final leg of the Ollie’s 360 Challenge Aug. 19 at Williams Grove Speedway.

10. Helio Castroneves

No. 3 Team Penske Dallara-Honda, IndyCar Series
After seven runner-up finishes this season, Helio Castroneves snapped a 29-race winless streak with a victory at Sonoma.

HONORABLE MENTION
ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series driver Paul Hann picked up his seventh victory of the season and 22nd of his career at Duquoin, Ill. . . Jimmy Owens returned to form with WoO and Lucas Oil late-model wins.

LAST WEEK
Carl Edwards jumped five spots to No. 3 after his second-straight Cup victory. Jason Meyers also moved up four spots with Jason Johnson and Helio Castroneves re-entering the rankings.
