No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, Nextel Cup Series

For the second-straight year, Jimmie Johnson posed as champion with the Nextel Cup in New York City’s Times Square. NASCAR invaded Manhattan for its annual awards festivities with Johnson headlining the list of titlists from all of NASCAR’s various series. Johnson became the first repeat Nextel Cup champion in nearly a decade.


2. Donny Schatz

No. 15 J&J Sprint Car, World of Outlaws

No driver was more dominant than Schatz in 2007, and he hopes to repeat that performance for his new Tony Stewart Racing team in ‘08.

3. Jeff Gordon

No. 24 Dupont Chevrolet, Nextel Cup Series

Despite a second-place finish to his teammate in The Chase, Gordon emotionally recounts 2007 as his best year due to his daughter’s birth.

4. Sebastien Bourdais

No. 1 McDonald’s Panoz, Champ Car World Series

After a fourth-straight Champ Car World Series title, Bourdais was in Barcelona testing for his new Toro Rosso F-1 team.

5. Kimi Raikkonen

No. 6 Ferrari, Formula One

The Iceman was able to stay cool enough to win a World Championship on track and then in an FIA courtroom.

6. Tony Schumacher

U.S. Army Dragster, NHRA Top Fuel

Schumacher became a five-time Top Fuel champion as the NHRA utilized its “Countdown” format for the first time.

7. Jon Fogarty/Alex Gurney

No. 99 Gainsco Pontiac, Grand Am Rolex Series

The duo combined for seven victories in 2007, winning the DP championship. Jimmie Johnson will join them for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

8. Dario Franchitti

No. 27 Canadian Club Honda, IndyCar Series

The 2008 Sprint Cup and Nationwide series schedules await the Indy 500 champion, who will be a NASCAR rookie.

9. Rinaldo Capello/Allan McNish

No. 2 Audi R-10, American Le Mans Series

Capello and McNish have combined for consecutive LMP1 championships and will be part of Audi’s two-car effort in 2008.

10. Kyle Busch

No. 5 Chevrolet, NASCAR Nextel Cup, Busch Series

An off-season of change is in store for one of NASCAR’s young guns, who will move to the No. 18 Toyota of Joe Gibbs Racing.
