No. 1 Donny Schatz

No. 15 J&J Sprint Car, World of Outlaws

A successful jaunt to Australia has set an auspicious tone for Schatz as he enters his first World of Outlaws season with Tony Stewart Racing.
Schatz has pocketed big winner’s purses, including that of the prestigious International, while Down Under.


2. Dario Franchitti

No. 40 Dodge, Sprint Cup/Grand Am

A Rolex 24 at Daytona victory was icing for the 2007 Indy 500 and IndyCar Series champ, but a NASCAR learning curve is expected.

3. Jimmie Johnson

No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, Sprint Cup

The defending Sprint Cup champion took home second from the Rolex 24 along with Alex Gurney, Jon Fogarty and Jimmy Vasser.

4. Alex Gurney/Jon Fogarty

No. 99 Gainsco Pontiac, Grand Am

Last year’s dominant duo from the Rolex Grand Am series notched a second-place finish at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

5. Jeff Gordon

No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet, Sprint Cup

Hendrick Motorsports’ senior member is among the favorites to win the fourth Daytona 500 of his career.

6. Kimi Raikkonen

No. 1 Ferrari, Formula One

The “Ice Man” comes back — this time as the World Driving Champion when the Formula One season opens in March.

7. Tony Schumacher

U.S. Army Dragster, NHRA Top Fuel

The four-time NHRA Top Fuel champion appears poised for a run at a fifth-straight title as the Winternationals kick off the season this week.

8. Jimmy Owens

No. 20 Bloomquist, Dirt Late Models

With three victories and a runner-up finish at Golden Isles, no one has been hotter than Owens to begin the season.

9. Damion Gardner

No. 71g Midget, USAC/Open Wheel

Gardner will find out soon whether he can sustain the momentum he gained by winning the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.

10. Jason Johnson

No. 41 Eagle Sprint Car, ASCoT

Johnson followed up a profitable trip Down Under with a King Of 360s triumph this past weekend at East Bay Raceway.


Last Week: Jimmy Owens moved up one spot as he and Damion Gardner flip-flopped. Jason Johnson entered the rankings, while Sebastien Bourdais fell out prior to his Formula One debut.

Honorable Mention: Scott Bloomquist reeled off back-to-back victories during the SuperBowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, Ga., before mechanical problems ended his run on Saturday.
