No. 1 Tony Schumacher
U.S. Army Top Dragster, NHRA Top Fuel
Schumacher won for the second time in three events this season and for the second-straight time at Gainesville, Florida’s NHRA Gatornationals. Schumacher is seeking his fifth-straight NHRA Top Fuel title and appears to be well on his way with yet another early triumph in 2008.
2. Billy Moyer
No. 21 Moyer Victory Circle Late Model
After a short break, Moyer returned to the track with his seventh victory coupled with his 15th top-10 finish in 19 starts this season.
3. Kyle Busch
Nos. 18/51 Toyotas, NASCAR Sprint Cup/Nationwide/Craftsman Truck
Busch appeared poised for his second-straight victory when steering woes surfaced at Bristol. He settled for 17th but kept his point lead.
4. Jason Meyers
No. 14 KPC Sprint Car, World of Outlaws
Meyers followed his Mini Gold Cup victory by winning the third round of the Golden State Challenge Series Friday at Ocean Speedway.
5. Carl Edwards
Nos. 99/60 Fords NASCAR Sprint Cup/Nationwide Series
Already a two-time winner in Sprint Cup this season, Edwards settled for a pair of top-20 finishes over the weekend at Bristol.
6. Donny Schatz
No. 15 J&J Sprint Car, World of Outlaws
Like Meyers at No. 4, Schatz has been unable to build on his early progress in Florida and Australia, which saw him win five times.
7. Lewis Hamilton
No. 2 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, Formula One
Sophomore slump? Last year’s rookie phenom won Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix from the pole, picking up where he left off.
8. Alex Gurney/Jon Fogarty
No. 99 Gainsco Pointiac, Grand Am
The defending Grand Am champions will return to action after a long layoff at Homestead-Miami at the end of the month.
9. Jeff Burton
No. 31 Chevrolet, NASCAR Sprint Cup/Nationwide Series
Burton led RCR’s 1-2-3 charge to the finish line in Sunday’s Food City 500, delivering Chevy’s first Cup victory of the season in the process.
10. Timo Bernard/Romain Dumas
No. 7 Penske Porsche RS Spyder, American Le Mans Series
Bernard and Dumas teamed with Emmanuel Collard to give the Porsche RS Spyder the overall victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring.
Honorable Mention
Johnny O’Connell became the winningest driver at the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring Sunday with his seventh-career victory, driving the No. 3 Corvette C6R with Ron Fellows and Jan Magnussen.
Last Week
Tony Schumacher jumped from No. 5 to the top of the rankings with his victory. Kyle Busch fell from No. 1 to No. 3 after a tough Bristol weekend. Lewis Hamilton and Jeff Burton entered the rankings.
