Through The Lens: Bob Wollek

Frenchman Bob Wollek had a dual athletic career, first as a world-class skier on the French National team and later as a world-renowned road racer.
Wollek began racing cars in 1967 and went on to campaign in Formula Two, winning once in 1971. Despite that, he moved on to sports cars and became a big winner.
While he never won his country’s marquee event, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, he did win the Rolex 24 At Daytona four times.
A Porsche loyalist through most of his career, Wollek collected a large number of class wins racing GT Porsches during the final years of his career.
Wollek, who enjoyed training by riding bicycles, was killed March 16, 2001 while riding his bicycle near Sebring (Fla.) Int’l Raceway where he was testing. He was 57.
