Through The Lens: Hut Stricklin
“Hut, Hut, Hut,” was the battle cry from the crowd when Wayman “Hut” Stricklin went on to the track during his NASCAR career.
Stricklin, 46, who now operates an auto and truck parts business, was born in Calera, Ala., and married Pam Allison, the daughter of stock-car driver Donnie Allison.
Stricklin won the NASCAR Goody’s Dash Series title in 1986 and quickly made his way to the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. He finished second in the rookie-of-the-year standings to Dick Trickle in 1988.
Stricklin made 328 starts in the Cup Series — the last coming in the 2002 Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway — but never found victory lane in the series.
He also made 54 Busch Series starts without a victory.
