A visual tour through the history of motorsports
While he has been out of racing for nearly 20 years, Lennie Pond is still fondly remembered by NASCAR fans of the 1970s and ’80s.
The native of Ettrick, Va., made 234 starts in what is now the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series between 1969 and 1989.
Along the way, he earned five poles and collected his lone victory at Talladega, Ala., in 1978. Pond finished seventh in points that year and was a career-best fifth in 1976. In all, he posted 49 top-10 finishes and $884,987 during his NASCAR career.
