Field Chasing Hamilton In Canada
MONTREAL – Lewis Hamilton was once again at the top of the timesheets during practice Friday for the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
The Englishman lapped in 1:16.118, .175 of a second quicker than teammate Nico Rosberg and .455 of a second ahead of defending World Champion Sebastian Vettel for Red Bull. Ferrari, too, had something to cheer for Kimi Raikkonen took fourth at 1:16.648 ahead of Fernando Alonso at 1:16.701.
The Williams drivers were locked together too with Felipe Massa leading teammate Valterri Bottas for sixth and seventh. The closest-matched teammates were McLaren’s Kevin Magnussen and Jenson Button, who were eighth and ninth fastest. Jean-Eric Vergne completed the top 10 for Toro Rosso.
In the opening round of practice, Alonso outpaced the Mercedes duo of Hamilton and Rosberg to lead the way. The Ferrari ace led the way with a best time of 1:17.238. Vettel was fourth fastest behind the top three, followed by Bottas in fifth.
