HOCKENHEIM, Germany – Nico Rosberg drove to a dominant victory Sunday during the German Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring for his fourth triumph of the year and his first victory in his native Grand Prix.

Behind Rosberg all eyes were on his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton, who made a stunning drive from the rear of the field to finish third and keep the pressure on Rosberg in the battle for the Formula One World Championship.

The race start featured a scary moment for the Williams of Felipe Massa, who made contact with the McLaren driven by rookie Kevin Magnussen in the first corner. The contact flipped Massa’s FW36 on its lid before the car righted itself. Massa was able to walk away from the crash, though his race was done.

Once the race restarted Rosberg was in a league of his own, pulling away from second-place Valtteri Bottas early in the event. As the event wore on Rosberg continued to build his lead and he was never challenged en route to the victory, finishing more than 20 seconds ahead of second-place.

Meanwhile, Hamilton was roaring through the field. After a crash in qualifying left Hamilton at the rear of the field for Sunday’s race, he was determined to make up for it. He sliced and diced his way through the pack, making contact with the McLaren of Jenson Button and damaging his front wing along the way.

Hamilton caught and was challenging Bottas for second late in the event, but he was unable to make his way around the Finn and had to settle for third after starting 20th.

Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel was fourth with the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso fifth.
