Massa Delivers Austrian Pole For Williams
SPIELBERG, Austria – Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas delivered a stunning sweep of the Austrian Grand Prix front row for the Williams F-1 team Saturday at the Red Bull Ring.
Massa claimed his first pole position since 2008, jumping to the top of the timesheets in his final qualifying attempt Saturday afternoon. Bottas finished just .087 of a second behind Massa to give Williams its first front row sweep since 2003.
Championship leader Nico Rosberg was third fastest for Mercedes, but his teammate Lewis Hamilton failed to set a time in Q3 after a spin and will start ninth.
Fernando Alonso qualified fourth for Ferrari ahead of Canadian Grand Prix winner Daniel Ricciardo in sixth for Red Bull Racing.
Kevin Magnussen led the way for McLaren as he qualified sixth. Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat impressed by qualifying sixth. He was followed by Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen and the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton, who was unable to take time in qualifying because of a spin.
