NBC Lands U.S. Formula One TV Rights
NEW YORK – The NBC Sports Group has signed a four-year deal to become the exclusive home of the Formula One World Championship in America beginning in 2013.
The deal, which begins next season, will provide more than 100 hours of programming across NBC and NBC Sports Network. The agreement ends a 17-year partnership between Formula One and Speed.
The NBC Sports Network also owns the television rights to most of the IZOD IndyCar Series schedule.
NBC will air four races – the Canadian Grand Prix in June, and the final three races of the season in November – while the remaining 16 races will air on NBC Sports Network. All practice and qualifying sessions will also be on the cable station.
The plan at this point is for every race to be televised live.
