SPIELBERG, Austria – Nico Rosberg extended his Formula One World Championship advantage with his third triumph of the season during Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring.

Rosberg took the lead for the first time from Sergio Perez on lap 27 as most of the field was in the middle of pit stops. Polesitter Felipe Massa started the pit stop cycle with the lead, but came back on track fourth after a slow stop.

Behind Rosberg his teammate, ninth starting Lewis Hamilton, was charging up through the field to second.

Despite closing to within less than a second in the final laps, Hamilton was unable to track down Rosberg. The German eventually beat Hamilton to the finish line by 1.9 seconds, earning his sixth Grand Prix victory in the process.

The victory gives Rosberg one more Grand Prix victory than his father, former World Champion Keke Rosberg.

Williams filled the next two positions after sweeping the front row, with second-place starter Valtteri Bottas finishing third to score his first Formula One podium. Massa finished fourth after starting on the pole and leading early in the race.

Fernando Alonso finished fifth for Ferrari, followed by Perez, Kevin Magnussen, Daniel Ricciardo, Nico Hulkenberg and Kimi Raikkonen.

Defending World Champion Sebastian Vettel suffered through another miserable day Sunday in Austria. He lost power on the first lap, which dropped him through the field after starting 12th. He later damaged his front nose wing and was forced to pit for a replacement before eventually retiring for the day.
