YAS ISLAND, Abu Dhabi – Sebastian Vettel cruised to his seventh-straight Formula One triumph on Sunday, demolishing his competition on the Yas Island Circuit.

Vettel took the lead from his Red Bull Racing teammate and polesitter Mark Webber on the opening lap and quickly distanced himself from the field. Webber ended up falling into a battle for second with Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg. Rosberg was able to grab second from Webber briefly, but Webber eventually tracked down the German on the 20th lap to make it a Red Bull one-two finish.

By the time Webber had reclaimed second, Vettel was long gone. By the end of the 55-lap affair Vettel was more than 30 seconds ahead of second-place Webber.

Rosberg settled for second ahead of the Lotus entry driven by Romain Grosjean and the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso. Lewis Hamilton, who’d had brake issues on the grid formation laps, struggled behind Esteban Gutierrez’s Sauber, Jean-Eric Vergne’s Toro Rosso and Adrian Sutil’s Force India at times when they were out of kilter on tire strategy.

In the closing stages Hamilton unable to pass di Resta despite getting within half a second of the Scot’s Force India, which ended the race in sixth with Hamilton seventh. Felipe Massa’s Ferrari was eighth, followed by the McLaren of Sergio Perez and the second Force India driven by Adrian Sutil.

The only non-finisher was Kimi Raikkonen, who hit the back of  Giedo van der Garde’s Caterham on the opening lap and damaged his Lotus’s right-front suspension. Raikkonen failed to complete a single lap.
