Vettel Sets Valencia Standard

VALENCIA, Spain – Defending Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel set the pace during a pair of practice sessions for the European Grand Prix Friday on the Valencia Street Circuit.

Vettel lapped the circuit in 1:39.334 to lead the second session and set the overall fast time Friday.

However, times in both sessions were very close, with one second covering the first 15 cars during the second session. In the first session, three tenths separated the first nine cars.

Second in the second session went to Nico Hulkenberg, who drove his Force India to a 1:39.465 lap time. Kamui Kobayashi, Michael Schumacher and Brune Senna followed.

In the first session, Pastor Maldonado got top billing as he put his Williams at the top of the chart with a 1:40.890. He was chased by both the Red Bulls, with Vettel in second and Mark Webber clocking in third.

Maldonado was unable to maintain his spot at the top of the board in the second session, clocking in 13th fastest.
