Simona De Silvestro Starts Season Strong
INDIANAPOLIS — Simona De Silvestro finished sixth in her debut with KV Racing at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. It was a good start to the season, but more likely a sign of what is yet to come.
“I think it was really important,” De Silvestro explained on Wednesday’s weekly IZOD IndyCar Series teleconference. “I think especially more for me than for everybody else. I think I had a little bit of doubts during the offseason if I was able to run up front after the season I had last year.
“It was just a big relief that we started off the weekend really strong, qualified up front and pretty much raced up front the whole race. So it was really good. I think it was a big confidence boost for me and the team.”
De Silvestro endured a frustrating 2012 season, which saw her drive an uncompetitive Lotus-powered car for HVM Racing.
De Silvestro’s teammate, Tony Kanaan, finished fourth at St. Petersburg and it is the first time she’s had the benefit of a teammate during her IndyCar career.
“I actually enjoy working with T.K. He has a lot of experience,” the 24-year-old Swiss driver said. “I feel like we have a good friendly competition going on in the team.
