Lucas Oil Backing Vautier In Indy 500

Vautier had four victories in Indy Lights competition a year ago for Schmidt Peterson. The 23-year-old Indy 500 rookie from France was the Star Mazda champion with four wins in 2011. He’s the first driver to win back-to-back scholarships in the Mazda Road to Indy program, which provides partial funding for advancement.

“Sam asked me if I’d like to sponsor Tristan (Vautier’s) car for the 10th anniversary of our relationship and I jumped at the chance,” Lucas said. “I was attracted to the Indianapolis 500 10 years ago because it’s the biggest race in the world and it’s a huge pleasure to be part of the race again with a car, driver and team that have every chance in the world of winning.”

Schmidt was ecstatic that Lucas accepted his offer to support Vautier.

“It is fantastic to be associated with such an iconic motorsports brand for the Indy 500 and the 10th anniversary of our original partnership,” Schmidt said. “Their business and racing truly go hand in hand and we’re proud to have brought them several Firestone Indy Lights Championships. I can’t think of another person I would rather give a Baby Borg Warner trophy to than Forrest Lucas.”
