LEEDS, Ala. — Will Power outclassed the competition in winning Sunday’s Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park.

Driving the Penske Racing No. 12 Dallara-Chevrolet, Power beat Scott Dixon (Dallara-Honda) to the checkered flag by just under three seconds.

Power started ninth, the furthest back of any Barber winner, to win the Grand Prix of Alabama for the second straight year. It was Power’s 16th career victory and the second for Penske Racing in as many races this season.

“I wasn’t even thinking about the end result, I just kept plugging away each stint,” said Power. “I can’t believe we won from ninth. I would have never thought that was possible at this place. Getting to victory lane was definitely not what I was thinking this morning.”

While Dixon finished second for Chip Ganassi Racing for the second consecutive race, Helio Castroneves, who won the season opener at St. Petersburg, finished third after starting on the pole at Barber.

Simon Pagenaud turned in the best finish of his IZOD IndyCar Series career, taking fourth in the Sam Schmidt Motorsports Dallara-Honda.

James Hinchcliffe finished fifth in an Andretti Autosport Dallara-Chevrolet.
