LONG POND, Pa. ― Pocono Raceway officials announced today open-wheel racing will return to “The Tricky Triangle,” following a 23-year hiatus, with a 400-mile IZOD IndyCar Series event in 2013.

Tickets for the July 7th Pocono IndyCar 400 are now available for purchase.

“The fans wanted to see open-wheel racing return to Pocono Raceway and we’re excited to welcome the IZOD IndyCar Series back next summer,” stated Raceway CEO and President, Brandon Igdalsky. “We are now pleased to offer the greatest fans in all of motorsports, the very best in both stock car and open-wheel racing.”

Pocono Raceway’s 400-mile event will join the 2013 IZOD IndyCar Triple Crown, with a $1 Million bonus awarded to any driver who wins at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Pocono Raceway and the 2013 IndyCar Series season finale at Auto Club Speedway. A driver that wins two of the three races will be awarded a $250,000 bonus.

Pocono Raceway’s three corners were designed in 1965 after three IndyCar tracks. Turn one resembles the defunct Trenton Speedway, turn two was built to mirror Indianapolis Motor Speedway and turn three is modeled after The Milwaukee Mile.

IndyCars were commonplace at the Long Pond, PA. Raceway annually from 1971 to 1989 with some of the all-time greats of open-wheel racing, including Foyt, Andretti, Mears, Rutherford, Sullivan and the Unsers, earning victories at the track once nicknamed “The Indy of the East.”

On July 7, 2013, a new generation of IZOD IndyCar stars, including Power, Hunter-Reay, Castroneves, Dixon and Franchitti, will attempt to conquer the unique, 2.5 mile, three-turn Pocono Raceway “Tricky Triangle” configuration. Speeds are expected to exceed 200 M.P.H. with side-by-side racing and last-lap passes to win, the norm.

Tickets for the 2013 Pocono IndyCar 400 start at $25 and can be purchased by visiting or by calling 1-800-RACEWAY (722-3929)
