Albuquerque Stuns During Race of Champions

DUSSELDORF, Germany — GT racer Filipe Albuquerque stunned three-time winner and World Rally legend Sebastien Loeb to win the annual Race of Champions Sunday at the Esprit Arena.

Albuquerque and Loeb each picked up victories in the two preliminary rounds, including a photo-finish triumph for Loeb in the second round, setting up the deciding third and final round Sunday afternoon between the pair.

Loeb got the early edge at the start of the two-lap finale aboard the RoC buggies, but Albuquerque made up time during the second lap to overtake Loeb and stun a field full of stars to win the event.

The German team of Formula One champions Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel won the annual Nation’s Cup Saturday afternoon for the fourth-straight year, besting the English team of Jason Plato and Andy Priaulx in the final round.

Americans Carl Edwards and Travis Pastrana were eliminated from competition early on.
