Butcher Top Southern Mod Rookie

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Greg Butcher won the Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.

Butcher, from Mocksville, N.C., finished the season with four top-15 finishes, highlighted by season-best 14th-place finishes at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C., July 2 and Langley Speedway in Hampton, Va., Sept. 4.

Butcher finished 13th in the season standings behind the wheel of the No. 0 Butcher Racing Chevrolet, a team owned by Frank Edwards. In five of the 10 races Butcher earned the Sunoco Rookie of the Race Award.

Butcher finished three points ahead of Mike Norman in the final Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings. Norman was 14th in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour standings with a pair of 14th-place finishes.
