Clauson Nets Second-Straight NMDOTY Award

MILWAUKEE — Bryan Clauson’s brilliant season has not only earned him a scholarship for the Firestone Indy Lights Series next year, but also the 2010 National Midget Driver of the Year Award.

Clauson, the 2009 winner of the award, scored 11 midget victories this season. Among them were the Belleville Midget Nationals, the Hud Hundred and Thursday’s Turkey Night Grand Prix at Toyota Speedway @ Irwindale, Calif.

In addition, Clauson won the USAC Mopar National Midget Series championship and the USAC National Driver’s Championship, which earned him a scholarship from the IZOD IndyCar Series to compete in all the oval events on the Firestone Indy Lights Series schedule next year. Clauson is only the third driver to win the National Midget Driver of the Year Award two consecutive years.

Brad Loyet led all drivers with 13 midget victories and placed second in points ahead of past NMDOTY winners Brad Kuhn and Jerry Coons, Jr.  ARDC Midget Series champion Steve Buckwalter also claimed 11 victories and placed fifth.

Kuhn’s car owner Corey Tucker captured the Car Owners Championship, finishing ahead of Loyet Motorsports and RW Motorsports. Indiana’s Dalton Armstrong captured seven victories during the season, winning the Design 500 Racewear Rookie of the Year Award. Spike (chassis) and Ford-Esslinger (engine) again won the Manufacturers Championship.

The top 10 drivers and top five car owners along with the manufacturers champions and top rookie will receive their point fund checks and trophies in the annual ceremony held during the final night of the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals Jan. 15.
