TULARE, Calif. — Bud Kaeding and Levi Jones shared the spot light in USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series competition at Gropetti Automotive Thunderbowl Raceway Saturday night.
Kaeding won the 31st Pacific Coast Nationals feature, leading the final 23 laps after leaders Bryan Clauson and Damion Gardner tangled and flipped while battling ahead of the field.
Neither driver was injured in the incident, two of seven flips which interrupted Saturday’s action on the third-mile dirt track.
While Kaeding claimed the 30-lap feature in his Maxim-Chevy No. 29, Jones finished second and secured his fourth USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series championship.
Jones’s effort also sliced Bryan Clauson’s lead in the USAC National Drivers Championship to just five points with two races (both midget events) remaining.
Tracy Hines, who won the Pacific Coast Nationals midget feature, finished third ahead of Justin Grant and Matt Mitchell
Mike Spencer was seventh and increased his USAC-CRA Sprint Car Series point lead to an insurmountable 356 points with one race remaining.
Clauson led the first seven laps before tangling with Gardner.
