Red Bull Lights Up Barcelona During Testing

BARCELONA, Spain — The Red Bulls were on fire at the test at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya. Literally in the case of Sebastian Vettel when his Red Bull RB6’s engine cover caught fire on the second day. And speedwise as well as Vettel easily topped the lap times on the first two days.

Nico Rosberg was fastest on day three in his Mercedes with Felipe Massa setting fast time on the fourth and final day Monday.

All teams ran their 2011 cars except HRT in this, the third of the four preseason tests. As for comparing lap times, some squads have yet to reveal the true potential of their cars.

“It is very difficult to know the pace of people and what they are doing,” Jenson Button said. “What is interesting is looking at people’s consistency. That is when you can really see if they have a good car and if it is working well on the tires. Ferrari does look very competitive in terms of consistency. But other teams do as well.

“The Toro Rosso looks reasonably strong. The Red Bull does too, but not as good as the Ferrari. I still don’t know where we [McLaren] stand.”
