Sanders Earns Modified Money

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Rodney Sanders romped from 12th on the grid to win the 11th annual Mesilla Valley Transportation Fall Nationals for UMP modifieds Sunday at Southern New Mexico Speedway.
Tommy Weder, Jr. started on the pole for the 50-lap feature and led the field early while Sanders, Bumper Jones, Johnny Bone, Jr. and Johnny Scott battled for position behind him. A caution flag on lap 31 erased Weder’s lead and gave Sanders his opening.
Sanders drove to the inside of Scott for second and then Weder to take the lead with less than 20 laps left. He survived one final caution flag with six laps remaining to pocket the $10,000 payday.
Scott finished second ahead of Weder, Bone and Ryan Gustin.
