Whip City Speedway Closes Down

WESTFIELD, Mass. — Whip City Speedway, the only active dirt track in the state of Massachusetts, has closed its doors.

The track, a quarter-mile dirt oval owned and operated by Dave and Lois Pighetti, is now up for sale. The Pighettis announced earlier this season they were retiring from the racing business and planned to put the track up for sale.

“There are still some people interested [in buying the track] and we’re still hopeful, I just have to ask you to be patient a little while longer,” said Dave Pighetti in a statement on the track’s website.

The venue, in operation for more than 15 years, played host to quad-four midget, mini sprint-car, modified, street-stock and kart racing last season.
