Speedweeks Adding Historic Parade
PONCE INLET, Fla – The 2014 Historic Legends Beach/Road Course Parade is now officially on the calendar of events for the Daytona Speedweeks.
Drivers and fans will be arriving with great anticipation as cars take to the historic road course that was used through 1958 as a place for speed trials and racing.
The town of Ponce Inlet and Volusia County along with Rhonda Glasnak and Bob Coolidge put this event together in February of 2013 and it was a tremendous success, drawing vintage race cars and drivers from 11 states and thousands of spectators.
Those in attendance were able to meet and greet everyone involved plus witness the cars as they rolled south on Atlantic Avenue for 2.1 miles before making a left turn onto the beach. From there the cars headed north for another 2.1 miles before making another left turn and parking in the Racing’s North Turn Restaurant parking lot, where the drivers were greeted by a throng of excited fans who looked over their cars with a fine tooth comb.
Staging will begin at 9 a.m. in the Racing’s North Turn Restaurant parking lot, located at 4511 S. Atlantic Ave., Ponce Inlet, FL 32127 and the parade will begin at 1 p.m. Cars must be manufactured prior to 1959. There is no fee, but it is suggested that drivers and car owners contact Glasnak at 386-956-3465 or Coolidge at 386-956-3465. The two can be contacted by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
