Brief History: Ohio’s “1/4 Mile of Thunder” originally opened in 1935 as a horse racing track called Allentown Speedway. Since that time, one form of racing or another has taken place at 1500 Dutch Hollow Road, qualifying Limaland as one of Ohio’s oldest race tracks.
Limaland has seen it’s fair share of ups and downs over 70 years, much like the racing industry in general. Once owned by famed Eldora Raceway promoter Earl Baltes, Limaland’s fortunes changed for the better in 1998, when the University of Northwestern Ohio purchased the track to enhance their high performance automotive program. UNOH’s stewardhsip of the track ushered in an era of improvements and racing that has been among the best in the track’s long history.
As the home to the Brad Doty Classic, Limaland’s place in the fabric of the Lima, OH community is certainly well entrenched and secure for many years into the future.
