C&R Racing Selects True Grit Award Winner

INDIANAPOLIS – C&R Racing Inc. officials honored John Haslett with the C&R Racing “True Grit” Award during the annual Rally in the Alley event held in Gasoline Alley, immediately following qualifications.

In order to receive the $5,000 award, a team member must be a veteran of IndyCar and demonstrate dedication in their work with IZOD IndyCar Series cars. The candidate must also possess the ability to overcome adversity and embody the excellent qualities of such a highly skilled trade.

Haslett has participated in a total of 29 Indianapolis 500 races with a position in transportation and as a tire specialist. He can be found working with the tires for the No. 3 Shell V-Power Pennzoil-Ultra Dallara/Chevrolet, driving the Roger Penske’s Office/Trailer also known as RP1, or working as the backup fueler for the pit crew.

“I am honored to receive this award,” said Haslett. “I started working in racing when I was just 22 years old. I was green as green can be, fresh out of the US Navy. My first year at Indy, I was working on Bobby Unser’s car. We won that race, and I have been hooked on racing ever since. It is the best feeling ever to help win the 500 for Roger Penske and I’m grateful to be acknowledged for all my efforts.”

According to Chris Paulsen, owner of C&R Racing, receiving the ‘True Grit’ Award is no easy task.

“Not every crew member gets this award. It goes to someone who time and time again has demonstrated dedication through their hard work to this sport,” Paulsen said. “On behalf of C&R Racing, I am honored to give John Haslett this year’s ‘True Grit’ Award.”

C&R Racing manufactures and distributes complete cooling systems, chassis and drivetrain components, wind-tunnel models and an assortment of other parts and pieces to IndyCar and NASCAR teams, as well several other racing series throughout the world. With more than 20 years of history, C&R Racing is considered one of the most important motorsports businesses in the world.

“Rally in the Alley and the True Grit Award, give us a chance to give back to the people who put so much into the world of motorsports with their hard work.”
