Hadan Named ARPY’s Top Promoter
Readers of Racing Promotion Monthly, the idea newsletter for auto racing promoters, chose Hadan from among six regional nominees. Honored as Regional Auto Racing Promoters of the Year were Andrew Cusack, Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (Maine); Joe and Phyllis Loven, Volunteer (Tenn.) Speedway; Rich Farmer, Fremont (Ohio) Speedway, Ron, and Scott Wimmer, State Park (Wis.) Speedway; and Doug and Traci Hobbs, Evergreen (Wash.) Speedway.
Larry Boos, on behalf of track owner Tony Stewart, accepted the Racing Promotion Monthly Award for Outstanding Annual Short Track Event for the Inaugural Mudsummer Classic, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at his Eldora (Ohio) Speedway.
Keynote speaker B.J. Birtwell of The Armory Marketing profiled the mindset of the digital generations and described strategies for engaging them in oval motorsports. Other Workshop sessions included “Small Stadium Broadband,” in which International Speedway Corporation broadband tech expert Brandon McNulty explained to promoters the investments and infrastructure required to insure robust broadband for fans and entrants in their properties; “DIY Web Casting,” in which Andrew Grimshaw, of SCORE International, showed promoters how they can position their own product independently on the Web broadcasting their own content; Jim Hanks, Must-See Racing Series, “Segmenting Your Market,” in which he shared his insight into the differing media preferences of his series’ fans; “The Rules of Engagement,” with Greg Price, of the Daytona Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau, in which he shared social media case histories; and “Promoting With Personal Video,” chronicling the role of Go-Pro-type personal video in the marketing of Deer Creek (MN) Speedway.
Day two of the Workshop featured a special Crate Engine Roundtable discussing the increasingly popular Chevrolet Performance sealed spec engines with Bill Martens, Special Programs Manager, Chevrolet Performance, and certified rebuilder Phil Harper.
