LaDuke Named Kulwicki Scholarship Winner
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Justin LaDuke, a competitor in the Allison Legacy Series, has been named the 2013 recipient of the Alan Kulwicki Memorial Scholarship awarded by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
An honor student and graduate of Tarboro High School, Rocky Mount, N.C., native received the honor formally during a presentation at UNCC Campus Hall on May 19. Ten members of Kulwicki’s 1992 Championship crew were on hand for the award. Humpy Wheeler was the guest speaker for the evening.
LaDuke’s racing interests include driving in the Allison Legacy Series, where he is currently championship standings. He began driving go-karts at the age of eight, moved in to Mini Cup’s and then the Allison Legacy Series in 2010.
After graduating, LaDuke would like to work in the motorsports industry as an engineer or crew chief for a NASCAR team.
“I am very honored and humbled to win the Alan Kulwicki Memorial Scholarship. Alan had passed before I was born so I never did get to see him race but I have always admired what I have read and learned about him,” LaDuke said. “His education, work ethic, attention to detail and dedication to racing have always inspired me to set high goals, to be committed and to always give and do my best – I hope to carry on Alan’s Legacy”.
LaDuke plans to major Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in motorsports at UNC-C as part of the university’s motorsports engineering program.
