Women In The Winner’s Circle Dinner Set
INDIANAPOLIS — Lyn St. James’ Women in the Winner’s Circle Foundation will celebrate the achievements of women in motorsports at the 10th Annual Women in the Winner’s Circle Awards Celebration Dec. 7 in Indianapolis.
Auto racing legend Janet Guthrie will be honored with the prestigious Mildred Marcum Pioneer award at the awards ceremony held during the International Motorsports Industry Show (IMIS-Indy) at the Indiana Convention Center. In 1977, Guthrie became the first woman to start the Indianapolis 500 and the Daytona 500, where she finished 12th and was the top rookie. Her ninth-place finish in the 1978
Indianapolis 500, with a team she formed and managed herself, was the best by a woman until 2005.
In 1980 she was inducted into the International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2006.
National Hot Rod Ass’n Pro Stock racer Erica Enders will receive the Outstanding Achievement Award after her history-making season by becoming the first woman to win in the Pro Stock class. She scored two No. 1 qualifying spots and won four races to finishing fourth in the 2012 points standings.
“NHRA has a tremendous history of participation and success for women in racing, and I’m extremely proud of Erica, who is also a graduate of our driver development academy. Women now have victories in every national class of NHRA,” said St. James. “Unfortunately she’s not able to be here due to the fact that she’s getting married this weekend, but I suspect she has her sights set on a championship in the future.”
The annual Women in the Winner’s Circle Celebration is the foundation’s major fundraiser, celebrating the success of women in racing, helping them build strong ties with each other and with the motorsports community, and honoring those who have provided leadership and opportunities for women in racing. Guests will have the chance to meet and visit with drivers and industry leaders at a VIP reception set for 5 p.m. with dinner and the awards celebration beginning at 6 p.m. Information is available at www.lynstjames.com.
