Puerta Bags Second Daytona SuperSport Run

Puerta made that lead hold up to the finish and increased the gap to a final margin of 1.03 seconds over second-place Charles Weaver and his Napa Auto Yamaha and 1.133 seconds over third-place Cory Alexander and his National Guard Suzuki.

“Everyone on the team is more confident than last year,” Puerta said. “I’m hoping we can get a lot of wins this year.”

Weaver said his bike was working very well in the draft all race long.

“It was kind of unexpected,” Weaver said. “I was OK in warmup, but had a little spill and went into the grass. We gridded 13th and I just kept making my way forward.

“Second-to-last lap I finally caught the lead group and drafted past most of them to get to second.”

The race was briefly red-flagged early on when a rider went off the track, which Alexander said worked to his advantage.

“After the second start my bike was running great,” Alexander said. “I made my way up from 11th, so I’m really pumped to be on the podium after a rough start to the weekend. I’m really happy.”
