CHINO, Calif. — James Stewart has apparently become the first U.S. motocross racer to test positive for a banned substance testing began earlier this year.

Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing issued a statement Thursday that Stewart received notification June 17 that he tested positive during a World Anti-Doping Agency test April 12 following the Seattle round of the Monster Energy Supercross series.

The test showed a positive result for a substance on the WADA 2014 Prohibited List.

According to the Yoshimura Suzuki statement, the medication in question is and has been prescribed to Stewart by his physician to treat a long-term condition.

Stewart is communicating with WADA and taking all appropriate steps to resolve this matter in hopes of participating at the next round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship June 28 in Blountville, Tenn.
