Aprilia To Join MotoGP Grid In 2016

MILAN, Italy — Aprilia will return to the MotoGP World Championship grid in 2016.

Aprilia’s parent company, Piaggiio, made the announcement during Tuesday’s EICMA bike show.

It will be the first time the Italian company will participate in MotoGP since 2004.

“In 2016, Aprilia will return to MotoGP with the goal of winning and discovering the same success we have enjoyed in World Superbikes,” said Roberto Colaninno, CEO of Piaggio. “

Aprilia earned the manufacturer’s championship in the World Superbike series in 2013. It was the 52nd world championship motorcycle racing championship for the company. Its riders, Eugene Guintoli and Sylvain Guintoli, finished second and third in the standings.
