Pedrosa Paces Sepang Sessions

SEPANG, Malaysia – Dani Pedrosa was just two tenths of a second off Jorge Lorenzo’s fastest lap ever at the Sepang Int’l Circuit as the Repsol Honda Team rider led both MotoGP practice sessions on Friday.

Having suffered a crash last time out in Aragón, the 2012 Sepang winner topped the time sheets ahead Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo during practice one as the championship battle intensifies at the start of the ‘flyaway’ triple-header.

It was a somewhat overcast morning at Sepang, but no rain would fall across the opening practice period. Pedrosa led the way with a 2:01.229 lap time. Repsol Honda Team partner Marquez was three and a half tenths of a second slower, with Lorenzo completing the top three as he and Yamaha Factory Racing teammate Valentino Rossi sandwiched GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista into fourth place.

In practice two Pedrosa raised the bar to 2:00.554, half a second quicker than teammate Marquez. Cal Crutchlow made the top three while Rossi and Bautista filled the void back to Lorenzo, although the reigning World Champion was in fact fifth fastest when taking into account the combined time sheet.
