MONTEREY, Calif. – Chaz Davies claimed the fastest lap Friday in the final practice session ahead of World Superbike qualifying Saturday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

There were several notable improvements during the final practice session, including a blistering lap from Ducati Superbike rider Davies who elevated himself to the top spot in the early stages of the session, where he would remain despite some fierce pressure from his rivals.

The session was initially stopped after just a few minutes after Toni Elias lost the front end of his machine at the corkscrew. The Spaniard then proceeded with the help of the trackside marshals to shake the sand and gravel from his Aprilia before returning to the track for the final 22 minutes.

After three fast and furious Free Practice sessions, the top 10 riders that will progress into Saturday’s Tissot-Superpole areDavies, Sylvain Guintoli, Marco Melandri, Tom Sykes, Alex Lowes, Eugene Laverty, Jonathan Rea, Leon Haslam, Davide Giugliano and Elias.
