ASSEN, Netherlands – Italian Davide Giugliano of the Ducati Superbike Team put down the fastest lap during a pair of World Superbike practice sessions on Friday at TT Circuit Assen.

Unfortunately Giugliano – who had a fast lap of 1:35.396 – eventually ended the day in the gravel after losing the front of his bike going into the final chicane in the last minute of the second practice session. He was unhurt and will be ready to fight for the Tissot-Superpole Saturday.

Jonathan Rea was second fastest overall for Pata Honda, followed by the Kawasaki of defending World Superbike champion Tom Sykes, the Suzuki of Alex Lowes and the Ducati of Chaz Davies. Lowes also fell in the final minutes of the second practice but was unhurt.

Niccolo Canepa (Althea Racing Ducati) was once again the fastest rider within the EVO category ahead of Leon Camier (BMW Motorrad Italia) and Ayrton Badovini (Team Bimota Alstare).

Rea was fastest in the first Superbike session of the day, leading the way with a 1:36.549. He was followed by Loris Baz, Giugliano, Sykes and Eugene Laverty.
