Chase Elliott Plans Truck Series Debut
CONCORD, N.C. — Hendrick Motorsports will field an entry for Chase Elliott in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for nine events in 2013.
In addition to the nine events, the first of which comes April 6 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Elliott will enter five ARCA Racing Series events. Aaron’s will be Elliott’s primary sponsor in both the Truck and ARCA events, with Lance McGrew remaining as his crew chief.
The option for Elliott to race in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2013 became available last year when NASCAR changed the minimum age for Truck events at venues less than 1.1 miles in length and road courses, allowing drivers as young as 16 years old to race.
“When the age change came about, we thought it was something we would want to pursue,” Elliott said of racing in the Truck Series. “Mr. (Rick) Hendrick talked to us about it and he thought it was the right step and dad (Bill Elliott) agreed with him, and I agree as well.
“I feel like I am prepared to go Truck racing this year. I’m ready to go test. We have a test next week at Nashville and a couple more before we go to Martinsville for the race on April 6. I’ve got a lot of things planned to try and get use to those trucks and I’m looking forward to it. It is going to be a lot of fun,” Elliott said.
Elliott said he expects his Truck to carry No. 94, the same number used by his father in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series from 1995 to 2000, but that hasn’t been set in stone. He also plans to enter select asphalt late model events in 2013.
“Our main focus is the Truck races obviously and the handful of ARCA races we’re going to do too,” Elliott said. “We’re probably going to go run some late-model races when we can. Not sure what those are going to be yet, we will probably just play that by ear.”
Elliott’s complete Truck schedule include both events at Martinsville, Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway, Dover (Del.) Int’l Speedway, both events at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa, Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Mosport, Ontario, and Phoenix Int’l Raceway in Avondale, Ariz.
The Georgia native’s ARCA schedule includes both races at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa., Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis., New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, N.J., and Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky.
Elliott ran the complete NASCAR K&N Pro Series East schedule in 2013, earning his first victory at Iowa Speedway. There are no plans for Elliott to contest the K&N Pro Series East schedule this season.
