Sauter Gets Back On Winning Track
FORT WORTH, Texas — After a frustrating start to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, Johnny Sauter returned to the front of the pack Friday night at Texas Motor Speedway.
Sauter, who finished second in the standings in 2011, drove his No. 13 ThorSport Racing Toyota to his first victory of the season in the WinStar World 400 at the 1.5-mile superspeedway.
“This is unbelievable after the year that we have had and the bad luck that we have had,” said Sauter, who earned his fifth career victory.
Sauter finished more than three seconds ahead of his teammate Matt Crafton, who beat Joey Coulter by mere feet in a photo finish for the runner-up position.
“I burned the right rear off trying to catch Johnny there at the end,” Crafton said.
Sauter started 20th and passed Crafton for the lead with 21 laps remaining.
Coulter’s Richard Childress Racing teammate, Brendan Gaughan finished fourth with Nelson Piquet Jr. fifth.
Justin Lofton, who led much of the race, finished ninth and leads the standings by five points over Timothy Peters.
