DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Trevor Bayne is expected to contend for the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship in 2013 after taking over the No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford driven previously by two-time series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Winning the pole for Saturday’s season opener at Daytona Int’l Speedway is certainly a good place to start.

Bayne secured the pole for Saturday’s DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona Friday afternoon, registering a time of 50.801 seconds at 177.162 mph. He’ll be joined by fellow Ford driver Sam Hornish Jr. on the front row Saturday.

“It is an honor to be a part of this group of guys. I can’t say enough about them,” said Bayne, the 2011 Daytona 500 winner. “They deserve all the honor for this pole right here because it was their hard work that put us on the front row.”

Parker Kligerman, embarking on his first full season in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, qualified third. Travis Pastrana and Austin Dillon completed the top five in qualifying.

Bobby Gerhart, Dexter Stacey, Joey Gase and Morgan Shepherd failed to qualify.
