NEWTON, Iowa – Ryan Blaney had just enough to win the pole for the NASCAR Nationwide Series’ Get To Know Newton 250 on Saturday at Iowa Speedway.

Blaney’s No. 22 Discount Tire Ford edged Sam Hornish Jr.’s No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota by 0.003 seconds in the final round of knockout qualifying.

Michael McDowell, Regan Smith and Dylan Kwasniewski rounded out the top five.

Chase Elliott, the series points leader, graduated high school in Georgia earlier in the weekend, then qualified sixth.

Elliott had paced the first three rounds of practice.

Brian Scott, Elliott Sadler, Landon Cassill and Brendan Gaughan completed the top 10.
