SPARTA, Ky. — Austin Dillon completed a sweep of the season’s two NASCAR Nationwide Series races at Kentucky Speedway with a dominant victory in Saturday’s Kentucky 300.

Dillon led 65 laps, driving his grandfather Richard Childress’ Chevrolet on the day after the team owner’s birthday. He beat Sam Hornish Jr. to the checkered flag by 1.059 seconds for his second victory of the season in his rookie season in the series.

Dillon won the pole during qualifying earlier in the day at the 1.5-mile superspeedway and was fast throughout the event.

“This wasn’t easy,” said Dillon. “There were a lot of good cars here…These guys build an awesome race car. We brought the same car back here and we adjusted on it. It is all about how bad you want it and we want this championship pretty bad right now.”

Hornish, meanwhile, raced up front the full distance, but didn’t have enough in his Penske Racing Dodge to track down Dillon at the end.

“It got better as we went along,” Hornish said. “The car started out really free, but we got our car tightened up a bit and we were able to move forward from lap 100 on.”

It was a good day for Richard Childress Racing with Brendan Gaughan coming home third and Elliott Sadler taking fifth at the checkered flag.

As well, Sadler regained the point lead, and holds a four-point advantage over 16th-place finisher Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Rookie Drew Herring finished fourth, wheeling the familiar Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18.

Cole Whitt, Michael Annett, Justin Allgaier, Ryan Blaney and Brad Sweet completed the top 10.
